I found a laser pointer at PetCo this weekend that charges via USB. Just remove the cap on the end, and plug it in like a flash drive. No cable necessary. Never seen one that didn’t require the three little batteries, so I snatched it up so quickly.

The last time a kid tried that in a theater, the audience booed so hard that we didn’t see it for the rest of the film. We probably scared the shit out of him, haha.
They also raise menu prices to make even more profit. I
'll nevernow somewhat understand why non-disabled people use food delivery apps. It’s always cheaper to just pick it up yourself. Even if the restaurant does their own delivery, they still charge a delivery fee and you’re expected to tip. Quit being lazy/rich and just pick up your own meal.

Technology@lemmy.zip•This $450 Semi-Dumb Phone Is Barely Even a PhoneEnglish
5·5 days agoI can’t even think of five people people I’d want in my contacts, let alone twelve. Who’s this phone for? Extreme extroverts with an Instagram addiction?
Thanks but what’s different/better about it? Does it fix the issue with nested comments not nesting, and ads that are showing up in Shorts after the latest ReVanced update?

News@lemmy.world•Exclusive: Trump's approval hits new 36% low as fuel prices surge amid Iran war, Reuters/Ipsos poll finds
4·7 days agoI’m convinced that ~30-35% of all living beings are complete and utter psychopaths, who are incapable of caring about anything that doesn’t affect them on a personal basis. Literally a third of all people going about their lives with no empathy whatsoever. I wonder what the evolutionary purpose for this is…

7·7 days agoI used to prefer CRTs too… And then I got an OLED. Nothing else comes close, not even the best CRTs. Especially if it’s got quantum dots in combination with OLED.
Given that input lag was already solved five years ago, really the only advantage CRTs still have left is their ability to look great at non-native resolutions. But upscaling filters like HQX/xBR for retro games, and DLSS/FSR for modern titles, have all but completely eliminated that last remaining advantage. These filters are really good at upscaling lower resolution content to fit your display’s pixels. Hell, DLSS is so good that it looks better than native 4K.

I remember being disappointed by them as far back as the mid 90s.

23·11 days agoYeah but it’s called Masking. You adapt to fit the situation. In this case, since we’re talking about a town in the US, it makes no sense to use celcius. When in Rome.
As someone with Autism, this is a skill you need to learn. Otherwise people just think you’re an asshole.

Technology@lemmy.world•DVDs are the new vinyl records: Why Gen Z is embracing physical mediaEnglish
3·1 month agoThe only reason I can think of is for the bonus content. When you pirate, you generally just get the movie/show and nothing else. No behind the scenes extras, no deleted scenes, no director’s commentary, etc. Even Blu Ray discs are often lacking in this category. DVDs were peak for special features.

Technology@lemmy.world•Firefox is ending support for Windows 7, 8 and 8.1, and users are urged to switch to LinuxEnglish
15·1 month agoCalm down, XP was 13 years old when it was retired. It lived a long, happy life. And Windows 7 was released seventeen years ago.
Using either OS in 2026 is extremely dangerous and stupid. Please switch to Linux.
It’s been over 3 years now and I haven’t had a single issue. I made sure to plug in the 12VHPR cable all the way and avoid bending it. I also made sure to buy a top tier PCIe 5 PSU.
The issue was vastly blown out of proportion. Don’t be an idiot and you have nothing to worry about.
My biggest regret is going with 32 of instead of 64GB of DDR5, when I built a new Ryzen 7000 PC in 2022 to replace my aging 4th gen i5.
But what I don’t regret is ignoring everyone telling me not to do all sorts of unspeakable things to snag a $1600 4090 at launch, especially given that it was never sold that cheaply ever again. It’s a beast of a card and I’ll easily get a decade of gaming out of it. Saw 4090s going for over $3K used on eBay lately, so yeah I’m happy with making what was a dumb decision at the time.

Do some people not wash their face (or shower) first? My morning routine goes like this: Wake > poop > shower (wash face and brush teeth in shower) > deodorant + cologne > get dressed > skin care > hair care > skip breakfast > go to work. I guess some people go with a different order.
