It’s the year of the horse (and horse-girl) over on AniList this year with their recurring gag of replacing poster art for many shows. This year, its horses!

Anime@ani.social•Spring 2026 Anime Season Kickoff and General Discussion Thread [2026, Week 14]English
4·5 days agoAs for non-sequel anime, Witch Hat Atelier is probably the most anticipated show of the new season, with manga readers hyping it up similar to Frieren. I’ve heard lots of buzz for the show and it looks pretty nice.
Two weeks back, we had a season preview post where people talked about what they were interested in watching if you want to give it a once-over.

2·9 days agoOP has more than enough recommendations at this point and some of these discussion threads are wandering way off topic and getting nasty, so I will be locking this post.
To OP, feel free to make a new post when your kid is 7 if you need more recommendations! 😜

Anime@ani.social•[Episode] Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Season 2 • Sousou no Frieren 2nd Season - Episode 7 discussionEnglish
1·28 days agoIn a blink and you’ll miss it moment, they did a crazy foreshadow this episode that was anime-original. This isn’t the first time they’ve done this either. It really makes me wish the manga wasn’t on indefinite hiatus because the closer the anime gets to the manga, the less opportunity they will have to drop some awesome foreshadowing in.
The aforementioned foreshadowing
This demon that studies humans was foreshadowing Solitar. Probably my favorite demon in all of Frieren.

1·28 days agoGenau is basically what a stoic tsundere looks like. On the outside he stays cool as a cucumber, but he is aware enough to know that he has had to do some messed up shit and doesn’t want others to get their hands dirty like he has. He keeps saying how unaffected he is by his home village being destroyed, but he was certainly compassionate in dealing with his friend’s final moments, and cares a lot about their bodies being protected.

Thanks again, everybody that voted! If you want to check out the anonymized ballot information and inspect the code I used to process the votes, you can find a repository I made here.
Total turnout this year (~25 votes) was down quite a bit compared to last year (~90 votes). I think there were a couple contributing factors to this:
- The private-message voting system was new, and I don’t think it seems like it was popular. Last year I had run a survey site that lets people fill out a web form for their vote. However, the software was really flaky on the backend side of things and I didn’t want to run it again. Also, there was not really any way to prevent somebody from voting multiple times because I couldn’t tie a vote to a user account.
- Last year’s voting period happened over the holidays, and I suspect that boosted turnout.
- I think total overall activity is down compared to a year ago, especially so since we are in the middle of a season. The active user count always tends to tick up when a new season kicks off, but then falls back down a bit to coast until the next season sees another bit of a spike. So, doing these awards in the middle of a season probably didn’t help turnout.
Please feel free to let me know if you have any ideas for improvement in the future. Whether that is about the voting process, nomination process, timing, whatever…
As for the award winners, there were a couple titles that really soaked up lots of votes in any category they were nominated for. Specifically, CITY, Apocalypse Hotel, and Chainsaw Man - Reze Arc got a huge portion of the voteshare whenever they were nominated. So, if there is any takeaway from these awards for me, it’s that those are this community’s standout favorites from last year.
Other interesting things I noticed:
- I was glad to see Ninkoro doing so well in the Best Comedy category. I loved the dark humor in that series so much, and the anime really elevated the source material in lots of ways. Glad to see others agreed!
- I was also happy to see Rock is a Lady’s Modesty do well in the OST category. It’s always nice when an anime about music actually has good music in it.
- I found it interesting that Maomao absolutely ran away with the voting for best Voice Acting, but she didn’t even make the nomination list for best character. In fact, Shisui received more nominations than Maomao for best character.

6·1 month agoNot an explanation per se, but all monsters do it in Frieren’s world, not just demons. You’ll notice that when they kill normal, non-speech-having monsters, they dissolve away as well.

3·1 month agoI’ve been enjoying this one a lot too. Frankly, more than I thought I would. Yeah, the production quality is not great, but the characters are a lot of fun. Yamabuki isn’t the most likeable, but he is definitely way more interesting than most other harem MCs out there. Also agreed about the unadulterated tsundere-ness on display. Best tsundere out there since 100 Girlfriends and Karane.
I still regularly listen to both the OP and ED of Bravern. Incredible show from top to bottom.
Alright, I’ll see if I can correct rikka.
Man, academic labs/shops are something else. Having worked in corporate labs now for over a decade, I look back on the “safety” training I got from the postdocs and older grad students at the time and can’t help but feel it’s a miracle more grad students don’t fall prey to accidents.
I was in a physics program and I think a big part of it is that people didn’t understand stuff outside their field. I did get lots of proper training on laser safety before I worked in our laser room. However, I think that is because the people training me are the ones that actually built the laser and understood it. Often, when I needed to fabricate a part, I was pointed to the right piece of equipment, but then never really trained on it and left to kind of figure it out (so many hours on an end mill messing things up).

9·1 month agoFAQ Time!
Why limit the number of nominees in each category?
As you might be able to tell, I capped the number of nominees in each category to six. Going through all the nominations, this seemed like a reasonable tradeoff between the amount of work I needed to do while still capturing entries that were nominated the most often. Going beyond 6 entries basically meant that for most categories, I was having to choose from a long list of potential titles that were only nominated by a single person. For example, there were 42 distinct songs nominated in the musical sequence category. However, the vast majority of those were nominated by just one person. It is frankly too much work on my part to try to jury or tally votes for that many nominees.
Why is X series in Y category?
Well, because it was nominated there. I didn’t impose any kind of limits this year on how many categories a title could appear in. Instead, it was purely based on your nominations. If there were any that were obviously wrong (like Orb in Comedy or something), I would have intervened, but that didn’t happen at all.
Voting methodology?
Ranked choice voting! You will submit your ballot and order the nominees that you want to vote for (or delete ones you don’t want to vote for) in order of preference within each category. Then I will process the ballots and run an RCV election in each category. I don’t yet have the code written to do this, but will soon.
How long will voting stay open?
Probably a bit over a week or so? I don’t have a set end time yet and it kind of depends on my irl workload. It probably won’t extend much past March 1st if at all.
Happy to answer any additional questions you might have in the comments!
Edit: thanks to @crank@ani.social for the post’s artwork.
Long hair around equipment can be deadly. That event happened while I was in grad school, and it really made me reevaluate all the long nights I spent in the lab without anybody else around.

3·2 months agoYeah, this wasn’t very clear in the manga, but I think the anime makes it more or less explicit that she tipped off the paparazzi. Kana texts her exactly where they are going and she ducks away and makes a call right after being told they are heading to his studio.

4·2 months agoWelcome! The Frieren adaptation is shockingly good. I kept waiting for a quality drop as the first season went, but it just kept delivering episode after episode.

Sorry for the slow response. Seems like the bot was right this time and it has released. The bot pulls its info from the AniList API, and that can often be wrong at the start of a new season.
