  • Well, I am no expert in samuraiology, but I can very well imagine something like “I am Bankotsu, wrath of the Eastern lands, destroyer of flesh and reason, fear me and my banyru for its blade is sharper than the devil’s sword, I have killed many great fiends for see I carry the head of Jakostu the gazing snake warrior, and I will soon be carrying your head home to my great master”

Basically casually dropping C’s name. Like, that’s what I’d do if I were B. (Except I wouldn’t die of course as I would be the strongest and greatest warrior to ever live and I will definitely destroy my opponent.)

Edit: for the scenario of A and B dying I’d assume the villagers or accompanying vassals would be able to tell the tale and who’s who. If everyone gets annihilated by an ancient nuke like attack then, well, bad luck I guess.

  • I’ve learned on the Sailor Moon subreddit that these long transformations, introductions, and yelling out your attack name and your own name that you often see depicted in anime actually stems from samurai culture. Samurais would have people helping them change for a fight right before the fight (transformation) and it was considered manners to introduce yourself at length to your opponent, so that if they brought your head home, they could say who it was whom they defeated - and vice versa.

Considering the power rangers are somewhat american and japanese and produced by toei, it would align with that idea.

(yes I know, I must not mention reddit here, but it’s really such a wholesome community in that one sub, please keep the hate out of r/sailormoon 😭 )

  • I won’t argue that it is the most hygienic way to clean laundry, but I doubt it is necessary on a day to day basis. Most people don’t get their underwear or bedsheets that dirty. Hospitals, nursing homes, daycare centers - sure. But not your normal household unless someone is severely sick.

We personally only wash dish towels, cleaning supplies and similar stuff at 90°, the reason being that the 60° program on our washing machine uses up just as much energy as 90°, and we don’t need to use extra hygiene detergent when we do that.

  • Unless the same family eats out at that restaurant every day of the week, who are we to judge when we see this? Maybe they went out once in a blue moon and kids went insane but parents wanted to finish their meal. Maybe the kids had a long overstimulating day already and can’t handle a restaurant anymore but are also too hungry to go home at that point. Maybe the parents are scared of everyone around them judging if their kids don’t behave like 1920s kids who are too scared to even breathe in front of their parents. There can be multiple reasons for screens at restaurants and food courts and it’s not up to me or you to judge. Restaurants and going out are usually a special occasion and while I don’t condone putting your child in front of a screen when you are eating out, I don’t want to prematurely extrapolate to screen use at home.

I also want to add, when you say you see kids glued to screens every time you go out, are you sure you don’t see any who aren’t? Because I have this with dogs, I despise dogs and I spot a dog when there is one. While a place could be full of cats or rats or squirrels and I wouldn’t even notice.

  • I absolutely envy every family that has you in their lives. Please never stop thinking that way because we desperately need people like you. Not as a free baby sitter or lunch provider, but as a role model and influence. We really cannot do it all by ourselves.

  • I second that. The time when their interests bore you to death is so damn small. The time they need a diaper or breastfeed is so damn small. It is intense and hard, but then, just some steps down the road, you just sit there rewatching Sailor Moon instead of Peppa Pig and spending time together becomes actually cool and interesting and it feels like you have a great person around. You read great books together instead of looking at books that go like “this is a caterpillar. It likes apples. The caterpillar bites into an apple.” You make up stories. You draw together. You roughhouse. You just… hang out.

  • So if you ever get a random headache that is just a pinching pain in a random spot then try breathing there. I don’t mean breathe deep or breathe into that spot but actually concentrate super hard into that spot and imagine this is where your lungs are. Concentrate when you breathe and think about how the air goes exactly into that spot directly from your mouth cause this is where your lungs are now, and how you breathe out from there. Keep concentrating and breathing there.

I don’t know why it doesn’t work if I just take deep breaths but this is legit the only way I can stop the pulsating stabs until they are gone. Concentrate hard tho because once you stop the pain returns unless the attack is over.

  • I had a fight with a dude who stood next to his car and threw an empty vodka bottle in the bushes, across the street of a kindergarten and with the bushes being in a private house area. It was morning. I am still baffled that he somehow assumed he is in the right because he forgot his keys. Eventually his girlfriend came, equally aggressive towards me, and picked it up. I am to this day scared of running into them at night but man, wtf what excuse to litter in your own hood is this. Forgot your keys my ass.

  • It’s unclear if you want to have a hobby on a laptop or whether that doesn’t matter.

If it doesn’t - mending is great. Some people have already recommended knitting and crotcheting, and while mending clothes is usually a mix of these two and sewing, I find it easier and faster paced than making something anew. Also regarding the sustainability aspect - buying new yarn and making something that you possibly might not need or enjoy vs repairing something you own and might otherwise throw out (and if you end up messing up you have hardly any losses. It was a try to save something from the landfill). It’s in a way a gateway to knitting, sewing, crotcheting, embroidery, but it is great on its own.

But it doesn’t have to be just clothes. Trying to figure out how you can make broken stuff last longer or adapt it as necessary is also great.

The only downside is that if you work a lot on your computer or something desktop-ish, then you might want to choose something outside to give your eyes a rest from focussing on something that is rather close.

  • I’m surprised that the Netherlands don’t make it into the top 10 though. My German view is definitely biased, but when I travel there it just feels like (well, used to feel like) they got other stuff to think about than other people’s gender and sexuality. Be what you want to be, as long as you’re going to our coffee shops kind of. As basically all European countries are shifting to the right more and more, I imagine the relaxed climate has also changed. Also the Netherlands are more than just the big cities, God knows how LGBTQA+ friendly they are in Overjissel. I only played cow cricket there.
