I don’t see myself ever owning a home. I’m in Los Angeles making ~$100k per year. I have friends who’ve tried to save and make down payments toward properties for sale but they always fell through.

Why shouldn’t they? Why should someone have to be married or have roommates to have somewhere to live?

God only supports x86, all other architectures go straight to Hell

Being multilingual and watching American content translated to Spanish is rough. A lot of idioms just don’t translate well but it’s almost as if those interpreting/translating aren’t even trying to sound natural.
My wife, native of Mexico won’t even watch them in Spanish now that she’s pretty fluent in English.

I do most my work on the terminal so I prefer something in the middle: convention over configuration, most functionality included but rather small by default. More complex needs can be compiled in.
Related: I wish more Linux distributions’ package managers would allow for binary installation alongside source compiled packages. In FreeBSD I’m amazed at how well pkg’ binary packages play with ports-compiled ones.

Yeah exactly. I’ve got a Windows Vista era laptop that runs Linux without issue.

That’s what I always say but it always devolves into “Apple shortchanges its users” talk.
Strangely it’s not even about Reddit. I was about to go off about “who cares about Reddit, this is Lemmy” but the post body just meanders on about communities on the latter for some reason.

Right, because jumping back into it will express my discontent 🙄

Jesus Christ the comments predictably delved straight back into the 8 GB debate. So burned out on this theme.
Couldn’t find a better title than “…reddit…”?
This reminds me of a long running joke I have with my wife since I purchased a pizza oven. The idea is to invite all our friends over for “pizza night” but when they all show up we’d just have a few “fancy” frozen pizzas.
Why not just go to the bathroom before sleeping?

Why use NTFS if FAT32 works?

Right? I’ve gone through ReiserFS, ext3, ext4, XFS, Btrfs, ZFS; hell on macOS I’ve been through HFS+ and AFS. And clunky ol’ Microsoft is still on fucking NTFS.

Back button on a mouse? I use a Trackpad. If I wanted to spend all day slowly navigating the UI click by click I might go back to a mouse.
And by the way, the reason I know it takes you back to an entirely different app than the one you’re using is because I’ve used it before. 😒

What is it with Android users’ obsession with the back button? Who actually cares? Why would I want some button that goes back to the wrong app for some reason?

I was going to say California. We have constant outages — having grown up in blizzards and tornados I never imagined they wouldn’t be able to keep power on here. It’s bad, like I mean when there’s a little wind it’s probably not staying on.
I had to do some digging because I remembered something similar too.
