Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why is your political model good? (Non US)
3·2 days agoWe have proportional representation, so the government is made up of ministers in the same proportion of votes their parties got. We don’t have the situation where 51% of the votes gives you 100% of the power.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•When was the last time someone stunned you with a statement?
11·3 days agoSome of us are quiet because we’ve learned the value of thinking before we speak.

20·3 days agoI have a migrant co-worker who shared his opinion that migrants should be deported back to their home countries.
I don’t want him to explain.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•If you created a simulation that resulted in the creation of countless intelligent beings would it be unethical to end the simulation?

Wasn’t that in Surface Detail?
You know what? You’re right.
You know what? You’re right.
I really don’t. No-one argues to convince anyone, just to state their own opinions louder.

Quiet spaces. Just sitting and breathing for a while is a valuable activity. It doesn’t have to make money to be worth doing.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•AITA for almost slapping workers at a DMV
2·1 month agoIf you had slapped, you’d be revealing yourself as a violent bully. But since you didn’t, I guess you aren’t - unless you’re out there slapping other people.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•When shopping, especially in fashion, do you take brand into consideration?
7·1 month agoOnly to avoid fashionable brands. I once bought a pair of name brand shoes and walked through the soles in less than three months. Won’t be wasting my money that way again.
There’s a lot of people here reminiscing about how it used to be a better world. It wasn’t, but we weren’t aware of all the horrible hidden shit going on, or we felt less affected/responsible because it was a less connected world back then. Sometimes I miss my ignorance, but ignorance won’t fix the world.
So I guess I miss pulp novels.
My phone screen is too small. I have a separate, larger, e-ink screen for that.
Mad World - specifically the Gary Jules version. Even Tears For Fears like what he did with it.

6·2 months agoCouldn’t stop thinking about that film for weeks after watching it.
The Hunting of the Snark by Lewis Carroll.
"Come, listen, my men, as I tell you again,
The five unmistakeable marks,
By which you may know, wheresoever you go,
The warranted, genuine, snarks."
