now that is one VERY controversial and brave opinion. I admire you for it.

I mean hell the US was originally founded on this
“Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

Raccoons will get into anything and everything if they’re determined, and those little chubby dudes ARE determined.
I live in Toronto, Canada and the city at one point rolled out compost bins with locks on them for the sole purpose of keeping the Trash Pandas out. It didn’t work. They figured out how to unlock them and get into the food inside. The mom raccoons would teach their babies how to unlock them. They also like to make friends with household cats in hopes of getting some of the cats food. a couple of neighbourhood raccoons made friends with my two cats for this purpose. they would sit at the patio door and chirp back and forth with each other obviously plotting how they could all collectively feast on my food.
they’re lucky they’re cute, they use it to their advantage.
I use Vaultwarden hosted on my private server. It’s great, will never use another PW manager. and yes it’s cached locally so you’re good. on PC, at least via the bitwarden CLI, you do a one time login and that’s it. you’re logged in until you tell it to logout, logs you in automatically on restarts and what have you. plus it’s very easy to access on whatever pc or phone you want to use. for pc you can just add the bw extension and have your passwords where ever or just simply login to your vaultwarden page remotely. this has been a life saver for me a couple times when I needed a pw for something but I wasn’t on my machine and borrowing someone elses.
I use NixOS myself and I love it, i’ll never use another distro again. plus with distrobox I don’t even need to use another distro, I already have all the major ones on my NixOS System.
If you do decide to go the Nix route keep in mind there’s really no right nor wrong way to have your system set up. it’s all personal preference. Some people will say flakes are the way to go, some people will say the opposite. Some people like having their system in modules, some don’t. Some like using the home-manager, some don’t. It’s all up to you. All I will suggest though is if you do try Nix set up a Git repo somewhere like on codeberg for it. Just makes things easier.

10 USB sticks? why? just use ventoy and throw them all on an external SSD or something. that’s what I do. can even use that with specific dotfiles you need for each distro along with ventoy. much easier to deal with than 10 usb sticks.

Krohnkite is fine and all but it’s quite janky with certain programs.

it’s fine, people are blowing whistles at them, that’s for SURE going to stop them…

I could see them detaining you simply for having linux on your laptop. If they can’t navigate around it then you’re obviously up to no good. I don’t use a display manager and could see them cuffing me simply because you need to login to my machine via TTY and know which WM i’m using.
the password was “starwarssux”

because not everyone in the country is under 16. So if you’re in your 40s and suddenly decide you want to start using tiktok or facebook then you have to provide proof that you’re not a teenager. which means providing ID or selfies or both to whomever they use to verify your identity. Now with that info they can now build a profile about what you do online. Also the issue that what happens if this info you’ve provided is in a data breach. OR they simply sell it to data collection companies.

they start making php forums and using IRC, hey i’m all for that.

surprised Dougie Ford hasn’t just handed it off to his Mafia buddies to then sell.
ah who am I kidding, he probably has done a little bit.

so basically the same people that bought EA?

I daily driver QuteBrowser and have for awhile now. I like it. does everything I need it to do and the vim style navigation is awesome.
Sure there are some quirks that can be solved via userscripts and trust me I have a lot written for it but everything that requires an extension in firefox or chrome i have working on Qutebrowser. I don’t get adds with youtube in fact dare I saw I have it set up better than what you could get on Firefox or Chrome, I have my password management via bitwarden, it all just works. And the dev, The Compiler, is great and is always on top of issues that come up.
there’s yet to be any site i’ve come across that just doesn’t work.

the verification process. you could be 42 and never signed up for social media and now you decide you want to post comments on tiktok. Welp now you gotta verify that you’re not a teenager. So provide your ID, provide a photo of yourself holding your ID, and hope some company that is obtaining that information either doesn’t sell it or doesn’t have a security breach. and a bonus to all that is the potential to further track all activities you do online. they can now easily build a profile of you via the social networks you sign up for.
that’s the problem.

this is so god damn stupid. If they’re fucking at the literal last step to get citizenship then it’s MORE than safe to assume they already have PR status and a Greencard/Visa. They’ve already passed all the checks, they’ve completed all the steps, they’re paying taxes and working and the US SS is saying "nah fam, you came from the wrong place some 10+ years ago.
Basically it doesn’t matter if you follow the rules anymore. Just dont’ immigrate to the US full stop because there’s no point. And even if you are a citizen you’re no longer protected.
Essentially if you’re not a white, straight (or closeted), christian, male then you’re fucked. Great country you got there.

been doing it for years, decades even, I mean hell when I was in high school in the late 90s I could get people to open an exe I sent them so I could open their cdrom tray and mess around with them via notepad.
it’s not though. I just tried it and you can’t highlight text and then scroll through fonts. you still need to know specifically what font you want or know all the fonts installed on your system. Unlike photoshop where you can highlight text and then scroll through the fonts you have installed which will change the highlighted text to whatever font on the fly. Gimp still to this day doesn’t do that.
