I have one very large tote bag, put all my groceries in it, and sling it over my shoulder. I could never go back to these tiny flimsy plastic bags

14·1 month agoIraan, TX is a real place, though it’s pronounced “Ira-Ann.”
Iraan is the second largest town in the second largest county in the second largest state in the United States, which is the second largest country in North America.

There’s literally a species of laurel native to Mexico that indigenous Americans used in their food for thousands of years.
Bay leaves come from various plants and are used for their distinctive flavour and fragrance. The most common source is the bay laurel (Laurus nobilis). Other types include California bay laurel, Indian bay leaf, West Indian bay laurel, and Mexican bay laurel.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•I never see them because they aren't legally allowed on the road.English
272·1 month agoVery early on, I think there were some well-meaning people who were really excited about it. The idea of an all-electric truck was brand new, and the promise was huge. It unfortunately wasn’t until after many Cybertruck preorders had been secured that Elon plainly revealed his true colors, and then after it was delivered that people found out it was a piece of garbage

13·1 month agoNo one’s claiming black and brown people aren’t disproportionately targeted by law enforcement. I’m saying the argument that “no one cares when it’s a brown person” is patently false, and that the government-sponsored murders that occur on video are the ones that elicit a strong reaction, regardless of skin color.

401·1 month agoI get where you’re coming from, but your argument is completely undermined by the fact that this murder wasn’t captured on video (in addition to only finding out about it 11 months later). The video really is everything. You might recall another person murdered by government officials on video by the name of George Floyd, a black man, whose murder made some pretty serious waves.

Technology@lemmy.world•Stephen Colbert says CBS didn't air Rep. James Talarico interview out of fear of FCCEnglish
11·1 month agoI think that’s a huge leap. Talarico’s positions are way left of the Democratic establishment, why would they be more “scared” of Crockett than him? He’s got Zionist groups actively campaigning against him because he’s forthright about the Gaza genocide. He’s setting his campaign up against the wealthy and openly criticizing the Democratic party’s subservience to wealthy donors. There just isn’t that much difference between their political positions, and I don’t get your angle.
Here’s a recent headline:
Texas Jewish voters alarmed by James Talarico’s Israel rhetoric
Local leaders said that, without improved outreach from Talarico to address their concerns, they’re likely to vote for Rep. Jasmine Crockett in the Democratic primary
