Technology@lemmy.world•HP realizes that mandatory 15-minute support call wait times isn’t good supportEnglish
0·1 month agoCurrent gen omnibooks are really good if you can ignore or cover the AI branding. They’re also a really good value especially with how often they’re on sale. Source: I bought one a year ago and it’s been very good.
I’m pretty sure this is a prank because I’ve gotten tested for colourblindness, but this is a hilarious prank.

Technology@lemmy.world•Dell says the quiet part out loud: Consumers don't actually care about AI PCs — "AI probably confuses them more than it helps them"English
34·4 months agoTrying to isolate out “emotional baggage” is not how language works. A term means something and applies somewhere. Generative models do not have the capacity to hallucinate. If you need to apply a human term to a non-human technology that pretends to be human, you might want to use the term “confabulate” because hallucination is a response to stimulus while confabulation is, in simple terms, bullshitting.

28·4 months agoIt doesn’t, it generates incorrect information. This is because AI doesn’t think or dream, it’s a generative technology that outputs information based on whatever went in. It can’t hallucinate because it can’t think or feel.

World News@lemmy.world•Paedophile teacher who had sex with two boys is struck offEnglish
01·4 months agoIf there is a conscious being that cannot consent, object, or otherwise appropriately respond to one’s attraction, then that attraction should not be held onto. Ways should be explored to move past that attraction, whether they be through counselling or self reflection.

0·4 months agoBizarre equivalencies here. Firstly, regardless of my personal beliefs on large age gaps, those are consenting adults. You’re equating them to children. Children are not consenting adults, it is a problem if you feel sexual attraction to them. Same thing with animals. They cannot consent. You have some really messed up ideals if you’re equating psychiatry and therapy, especially modern-day versions of them, to conversion therapy forced onto gay people. This is exactly why I called it excusatory MAP bullshit because you go right down this slippery slope. Being sexually attracted to children is not a sexuality.

World News@lemmy.world•Paedophile teacher who had sex with two boys is struck offEnglish
01·4 months agoYeah, but prefaced it by saying you can’t help who or what you’re attracted to. Right out of the MAP playbook. The thoughts and attraction in itself is a problem and requires counselling because “children” are not a sexuality. You can and should help what you’re attracted to when that what is a child! If you’re having suicidal thoughts, you should see a counsellor. If you’re having thoughts about harming others, you should see a counsellor. If you’re having thoughts about diddling kids, you. should. see. a. counsellor.

2·4 months ago“MAP” type excusatory bullshit, fuck off. Pedophilia is not a sexuality because “child” is not a sex or gender expression.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Please help me under stand my spouse's gift and their hurt
1·5 months agoI understand where you’re coming from, but I’ll still disagree that the commentator was using anything as evidence. It was merely used as a suggestion. ASD is a neurodevelopmental disorder and shows up through behaviour and it does not hurt to get tested. For example, I have MDD. If I describe a one-time occurrence of my symptoms, it’s easy to chalk it up to ordinary behaviour. The issue is that it is a persistent and repetitive behavior that doesn’t go away. The OP has replied and posted that other people in their life have suggested they get tested and they’re not surprised to hear this. That suggests persistent and repetitive behaviour that suggests neurodivergence. I will repeat that it does not hurt to get tested. If OP gets tested and is not on the spectrum, great. If they get tested and they are on the spectrum, also great, it’s probably better that they know.

162·5 months agoI mean they did say “you may be…” and then followed it up with advice to talk to a professional. I don’t think there was an attempt to diagnose here, even though I don’t agree with how the comment was worded. Personally, I think everyone should get tested to see what neuroatypicalities they have.
