Technology@lemmy.world•Windows 11’s push for mandatory Microsoft accounts is hitting a nerve with users who say the change complicates setup, privacy, and basic PC ownershipEnglish
4·14 days agoYeah I’m in a (primarily) Windows shop too, but we have many Linux servers that I manage and maintain. My DD at home is CachyOS, and I’m very familiar with management of a fleet of Ubuntu servers. I’ve already told the guys on my team I’m ready to just switch at work too. Might cause me some management issues at times though because of needing Windows Server management tools (e.g. RSAT), but I suppose I could jump box that.
Absolutely. I had the same problem as OP on the first boss and immediately put it down for the day after my first death, but when I got back to it the next day, I couldn’t put it down. Went through and got all endings and the game just kept rewarding me with more and more as I did.
Loved the soundtrack, loved the philosophical arguments, and that emotional rollercoaster punched me in the gut repeatedly and I just kept getting up for more.
Whoa, congrats! I should check my high score too… OMG would you believe it?! Me too!

Technology@lemmy.world•Firefox is ending support for Windows 7, 8 and 8.1, and users are urged to switch to LinuxEnglish
15·2 months agoAt this point, if you have hardware, Linux is a good choice. New or old. The older it is might change which distro, but still a good choice.

Games@lemmy.world•Github Banned a Ton of Adult Game Developers and Won’t Explain WhyEnglish
2·3 months agoSure, but my point is that the purchase isn’t why this happened. It’s huge stretch to say that, we’re way past the teething stages here and it’s been a Microsoft product for a long time now. No love lost for Microsoft by me, I’m full-time on Linux anyhow so it’s not like I’m defending them or something absurd.
GitHub themselves have gotten to be a big company and big companies make heavy-handed and controversial decisions on their own. Maybe GitHub is the baddie is all I’m trying to say here.

Technology@lemmy.world•The Rise Of Fake Casio Scientific CalculatorsEnglish
3·3 months agoThe best part about using an RPN calculator (I also had an HP) was that if someone asked if they could borrow it, I could tell them that if they call do 1+1 and get 2 on it, they could use it. No one ever was successful.
RPN is great though, it’s so fast if you could quickly organize the order of operations.
Edit: RPN, not RPM.
Whoa there, motherfucker. Language.
I have questions:
- What was your purpose with this cathedral?
- Were you caught in the act or was there any kind of man hunt?
- Using the Nokia 3310 as the unit of measurement, how tall was this cathedral?
Hey, no rocking my shaky narrative! You’re not supposed to notice my impracticalities!
I have to pay for my toilet water.
Geologically speaking, it’s the blink of an eye.

Technology@lemmy.world•4 reasons Plex is turning into the thing it replacedEnglish
12·4 months agoThat’s why I use Emby. Paid for lifetime within a day of switch from Plex (which I also have has lifetime for like a decade) because it has a ton of plugins that have been useful and has a cloud server switch function.
I never played it, but it looked like a good time for people into Pokemon for sure. Unfortunately on the flip side, I know of it being a problem in some specific areas too. A friend in Seattle wasn’t getting any sleep for weeks because idiots were ruining it for everyone by running loudly at 1 to 3 am near his apartment. I hope that if any other big AR game goes live, they enforce quiet hours.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Has anyone done something small for you that helped you in a big way that they did not realize?English
3·4 months agoI had a very similar situation many years ago. I worked for a public school district for 23 years in the IT dept, and one of the teachers told me about 10 years into working there that he finally has learned how to work with me. When I asked what he meant he said, “First I’m going to ask you for help with something and you’re going to tell me no. Then you’re going to laugh and say yes.” While I obviously thought my variety of snark was funny and not at all irritating for someone who just wants help, it really made me stop and think.
After resigning from that job, I emailed him to thank him because it really changed my attitude on how to respond to people in tickets and calls. He probably didn’t think much of it at the time but I hope he understands now how much of an impact he made on me.
I might still be an overly sarcastic fuckwit to my team (who responds in kind), but I’ve been told my customer service is always some of the best and I’m able to talk them off the edge, whether they’re pissed at our organization or if they’re in a tech crisis. I feel I’m able to read them much better now and if they get sarcastic, I can return their energy. But otherwise my default is warm responses and keeping calm until we’re done with the issue.
Lol yeah I still have old adventure games on floppy and CD from like 95. Obviously don’t have a floppy drive anymore nor an optical drive in over a decade.

Coincidentally I rewatched POTC1 last night. Your timing was great on this one for me specifically.
