Here’s the thing about the secret service. Fascists/authoritarians are paranoid and obsessed with personal loyalty. The problem with that is it breeds incompetence, laziness, and negligence. I’m a socialist that grew up in the south watching my dad go from Rush Limbaugh to Fox News to Facebook MAGAdom. We went from debating policy in my teens, to debating reality in my 20s and 30s, and finally to me refusing to participate because I could see he was getting old.

That didn’t stop him from dying in an underfunded and rundown rural hospital with Fox News blaring on the TV in his room.

I’ve been off Facebook for at least 15 years. I’ve been trying to move people away from it for so long, or at least getting people to stop sharing shit about their kids, but a lot of people use it as their primary means of communication, news, photo sharing, etc. I just don’t get it. I do think most people I know just have ghost accounts now, though. But for some, Facebook is their internet. When they send me Facebook links, I just don’t interact with it at all. I don’t know what they sent me because I refuse to click the link, and even if I did, Facebook is blocked by my firewall and DNS so I won’t even be able to see it without getting around my own network. I just don’t even respond.

Politics has just always been such a no-no topic at work, it’s no wonder we can’t organize any sort of real labor movement now.

I think it’s even worse in the MAGA era.

Man I feel you. There are so many things I want to read, so it’s hard to stay focused on one thing sometimes. I have like five or six books right now in various stages of completion next to my couch. I probably need to get some ADHD meds.
