Some Matrix clients such as comment also support screen sharing (for a more discord like experience). But I haven’t used it myself, so I can’t speak to its quality or reliability: https://commet.chat/

World News@lemmy.world•German men need military permit for extended stays abroad [3+ months]English
402·11 days agoWhile the law requires men to request the permit, the [army] spokesperson clarified, it also obliges the military career center to issue it, if "no specific military service is expected during the period in question.”
"Since military service under current law is based exclusively on voluntary participation, such permissions must generally be granted,” the official added. (…)
When asked, the ministry spokesperson pointed out that "the regulation was already in place during the Cold War and had no practical relevance; in particular, there are no penalties for violating it.”

Technology@lemmy.world•Passkeys Explained: The End of PasswordsEnglish
21·5 months agoYou could also use dedicated hardware to store your keys. Any FIDO USB key will do. I have a Yubikey that cost me less than 30 bucks.
It’s really handy, because I frequently use someone else’s device for work. All I have to do is plug it in, press the button on the key and enter the master password for the passkey storage. It’s like having a password manager on a USB stick.

2·5 months agoAnd they can be hardware based as well. I have a cheap Yubikey USB dongle, which works as a passkey vault as well. Completely OS independent.
Except the provision in question was copy pasted from an old law where it existed for decades without any change.
I find the tendency on Lemmy to see a conspiracy in every law concerning.
Criticise the law for what it does (there is enough here for it) and be wary of potential abuse. But sometimes warm water is just warm water.
