Okay, I’m going to have to actually stop in and eat there one of these days.

News@lemmy.world•Americans quit streaming services as cost of living continues to climb, report finds
18·5 days agoThis is the point I was looking for. I’d happily pay a reasonable price for Netflix, and I did for years. However, I was rewarded for my patronage by massive price hikes combined with a consistently worsening product. The end came when I realized that I didn’t even use it anymore because it sucked so much. If I wanted to pay exorbitant prices to watch ads, I’d go back to cable.

16·7 days agoThat is very much a risk. When chaos rules, it becomes very difficult to anticipate all the potential consequences.

World News@lemmy.world•Trump warns a 'whole civilization will die tonight' if a deal with Iran isn't reachedEnglish
45·7 days agoTrump has been itching to use the nukes since minute one. I can easily see him dropping one on a city in Iran, and then threatening to drop another every day until they surrender and open the strait. While that is absolutely horrific, the irony is that Trump is too fucking stupid to see that the “whole civilization” that will die is the U.S… The world will shun the U.S., dump it’s bonds and destroy the dollar. There will be hyperinflation, bank runs, chaos, and a hard splinter of the U.S. into factions and likely a “hot” civil war. Trump will make clear that all of the “fearmongering” from radical Islamists about the U.S. and the western world was true, potentially igniting world war. None of this will take away from the tragedy in Iran, which just happened to be the convenient target Trump the bully thought he’d punch down on.
Joke’s on her, I’m into it.

News@lemmy.world•Trump issues warning to 5 Democratic states, says raids already started
47·11 days agoTrump said future operations will be nationwide “but primarily in those Blue States where CROOKED DEMOCRAT POLITICIANS” are in charge, Trump said, namechecking California, Illinois, Minnesota, Maine, and New York.
The fact that this dipshit is announcing that he’s specifically targeting democratic states gives anyone targeted in those states a reasonable argument the prosecutions are politically motivated and in violation of the equal protection clause of the Constitution. Now, that doesn’t mean that the targeted harassment won’t be a nightmare for those targeted, but if he kept his stupid mouth shut he’d be more effective with his illegal prosecutions.

News@lemmy.world•Trump tells aides he is willing to end Iran war without reopening Hormuz, WSJ reports
12·14 days agoYou should be nervous. He has the keys and he’s itching to use them to show the world how powerful he is.
To paraphrase George Bernard Shaw, the fact that a MAGA racist is happier than a woke person is no more to the point than the fact that a drunken man is happier than a sober one. The happiness of credulity is a cheap and dangerous quality of happiness, and by no means a necessity of life.

125·20 days agoI can’t see this move by Google as anything but a power grab to reduce competition. If someone wants to bear the “risk” of installing software that hasn’t been vetted by Google, why does Google insist on being a nanny that makes it more difficult? Money, that’s why. Google is acting to try to enforce its monopoly over android apps. GrapheneOS, which is more secure than android, doesn’t make a fuss over this issue. No, this is only an issue with the company that hoovers up all your data in breach of your privacy.
THC has very low toxicity, so the lethal dose is ridiculously high, on the order of 1000mg/kg of body weight, so Spongebob should survive his ordeal, but it isn’t going to be fun. I had a “friend” drug me with an edible he made with a ridiculous amount of THC, and when it kicked in I slipped in and out consciousness, and came to vomiting. The room was spinning so hard I could barely walk and needed assistance. It was a bad day.

World News@lemmy.world•Trump claims ‘productive’ talks with Iran but Tehran denies contactEnglish
461·21 days agoIt is sad. The U.S. has destroyed its credibility in the world, and we can thank Trump and those who voted him in for that.
I’m sorry, is this the new cover for the Book of Mormon?

News@lemmy.world•Pentagon orders 2,500 troops, 3 warships from California to the Middle East
0·24 days agoA bit over a year ago, when I was still on reddit, I commented in r/gold, which is full of conservatives, noting that Trump would likely start a war. Some MAGA chud took offense, telling me that Trump was “a man of peace.” I lol’d and moved on. I’d like to think he’s reconsidering his views, but the more likely scenario is that he invented some reason to believe that Trump had no choice, and war with Iran is a good thing.

This is encouraging, in that things in Hungary got bad enough to oust the dictator. Sadly, I think it will take the coming financial collapse to change enough minds to oust Trump, and that ouster can only happen if Trump is unable to cement his grip on power, which he is working hard to do.
