Thank Goodness You’re Here is quite possibly the funniest game I’ve ever played - good suggestion.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do you shower facing the shower or away from it?English
6·18 hours agoKind of both?
I hold the shower head in my hand almost the entire time, but when I need both hands (e.g. shampooing) I put it back in the holder and face away from it.
I can’t stand having the water running directly on my head or face - those waterfall shower heads are my nightmare scenario.

34·6 days agoWell yeah - game development, a creative endeavour, benefits from continuity within the team working on it. Once you lose a certain percentage of that team, or even just a handful of key figures, the original vision and the lessons learned during its realisation are lost forever.
You’d think this was obvious, but apparently not to the c-suites, who see everyone as replaceable cogs.

Emphasis mine, but seeing this made me immediately discount this site as a reputable source.

64·9 days agoI didn’t say I approve of the current tactics, I’m just pointing out that circumstances can be more complex than simply saying ‘let the parents sort it out’ and leaving it at that.

85·9 days agoThe issue with this argument is that many kids don’t have good parents, and some don’t have any parents at all.
Are those kids just supposed to be left to the mercy of bad actors because of their circumstances?

1512·9 days agoI’ll probably attract downvotes for this, but I find ‘Microslop’ as cringeworthy as old staples like Micro$haft or Crapple.
Like, yeah, they’re shitty companies. But calling them childish names just comes across as petty and insecure, kind of like when Trump gives someone a dumb nickname.

31·10 days agoVery few things in game dev are as simple as checking a box in the engine, unfortunately.
To distribute a macOS game on Steam I believe the app needs to be signed and notarised, which requires several extra steps and a (paid) Apple Developer account. It’s one reason why many devs simply don’t bother supporting the platform.

11·10 days agoNo, there’s no way to easily install Windows on Apple Silicon like back in the days of Bootcamp on Intel. If there’s no native macOS version of a game, you have to use translation layers like you would on Linux - either Wine or Apple’s own Game Porting Toolkit.
There’s also no support for 32-bit apps any more, so many older games with native macOS releases don’t work anymore either.
That said, when I looked through my Steam & GOG libraries on Mac I was surprised at how many games do apparently run natively. Far more than I expected. But it’s just a curiosity really - if I want to play a game I’ll use my PC.

7·13 days agoThat original version still exists - it’s called Save the World and iirc they recently revamped it and made it free for everyone (it used to be a standalone purchase).
Last time I played it I didn’t find it all that engaging, so it’s hardly surprising they stuck with BR as the lead mode once it took off. I guess my point is this: they didn’t ‘throw out’ StW, it just got eclipsed by a far more popular mode. Can’t really blame them for backing a winner.

6·15 days agoAnd that’s not even close to a full list, either. There’s also Flight Simulator, Sea of Thieves, Pentiment, and Hi-Fi Rush. Probably others I’m forgetting too.
There’s plenty to hate on MS for, and I’m not saying they haven’t squandered a lot of the talent they paid for, but to say they’ve released nothing great for over a decade is just ignorant.

5·17 days agoEpic isn’t an apples-to-apples comparison with most other studios. They don’t just make games, they develop and support Unreal Engine for both games and film production, they operate EGS, a motion capture studio, ArtStation, Sketchfab, and a dozen other subsidiaries. It’s a huge company.

Games@lemmy.world•Nvidia Announces DLSS 5, and it adds... An AI slop filter over your gameEnglish
1·27 days agoCheck out this fun little nugget from further down in the article:
Nvidia actually used two RTX 5090s for its demos: one plays the game, the other exclusively runs the DLSS 5 technology.
An entire second GPU just to run it.
Given they can’t find the place to pour engine oil, they probably won’t know what this means or how to do it.
