It really wasn’t that hard. I had the upgraded Ser Junken that can revive you and the turtle pet I believe? I was using the chicken gun and was able to just blast through the dragon.

I posted my first win of Enter the Gungeon on the relevant subreddit and it people were convinced I was cheating/lying because I had low max hp (meaning I didn’t flawless victory the minibosses) and I was given a warning and the post was deleted by the mods.

Extra one: I used to have to walk past a clinical trial facility that would commonly have people stay for 2 weeks or so to be monitored while they were part of the trial. You weren’t allowed to smoke but people would always be out in their little yard asking for cigarettes. As I was turning the corner one day there were three guys watching for someone to bum one off of and one saw me and said, “Aww fuck he looks healthy as HELL!” Not really an insult but was said in legitimate anger and I am still riding that compliment.

I watched it for the first time in the last year as someone who is largely anime naive. The mystery/mystical aspect of the narrative was the most intriguing part of the experience for me. I tend to enjoy genre-bending so the idea of using a battle mech anime as the vehicle to tell a character driven story appealed to me. However, I found many of the characters pretty difficult to accept.

Overall it was enjoyable but it’s not as special to me as I feel it is to others. I’m sure it’s because I am approaching it 30 years later and without an appreciation for the genre, but I don’t regret it. I’ll make the perhaps inappropriate comparison to Doki Doki Literature Club for someone who’s not familiar with the dating sim games.

The Wheel of Time series has 13.1 books in it with each being between 25-40+ hours. I listened to the entire series which was ~450 hours or about 19 days.

The Farseer trilogy is one of my favorite book series but that’s a fair assessment.

I had a friend recommend me Sword of Truth, which was, and is still, his second favorite book.

He just had a kid and named it Atlas after the Ayn Rand novel which is his first. I almost spit out my coffee when he told me that.

I know this is an unpopular opinion, but several people heavily and repeatedly recommended me the Dark Tower series by Stephen King.

I had read a few books by King before and really enjoyed some of them. Even the first book in the series (written well before the others) was interesting but the whole series is just unbearable. It’s long and disjointed and while there are some interesting moments, there are three times the amount of adding grotesquerie for no narrative reason, literal self-inserts, or worse, grabbing references to other IPs that get shoehorned into the story.

I know there are a lot of people that liked the series and I am happy it exists for those people, and I realize not everything is made for my tastes, but the ending was just so irredeemably bad. It makes the ending of GoT look like Breaking Bad.

One day a coworker of mine was walking into our huge office building and thought he saw a mitten on the ground of the lobby. When he picked it up it was actually a pair of lacy women’s underwear. Ostensibly it fell out of someone’s gym bag or got caught in their pant leg in the laundry and dislodged there. He drops it immediately and comes into the office. He doesn’t mention this to anyone.

Two hours later the main receptionist comes in with the underwear in front of our whole group and says she saw him drop these this morning and she wants to return them. He’s denying the whole thing and at this point none of us have the previous context and all locked in to the conversation and silent laughing. She says, “We just want to give these back in case they have sentimental value!” and the the whole group is dying laughing now. He eventually convinces her he isn’t interested in a stranger’s underwear (which she bare handing) to which she says she’ll keep them in case he changes his mind (???).

It’s been 5 years and it gets brought up nearly daily
